Good For These Types: Straight, Wavy, Curly

Good For These Lengths: Medium, Long

Hair Should Be: Damp by using a spray bottle

What You’ll Need: Spray bottle of water, fine-tooth comb, ponytail holders, curling iron and several hairpins

Difficulty: Difficult

How To Do It:

1. Use a fine-tooth comb to part the hair to one side and, on the side with more hair, gather a 3-inch section of hair along the part, starting at the forehead.

2. Make a French braid (see French braid slide), pulling in hair only from the side of the part the braid is on. The braid should go in the same direction as the part, toward the back of the head. Braid through to the ends, and secure with a ponytail holder.

3. Make a ponytail at the nape of the neck with the remaining hair. Secure with a ponytail holder. Split the ponytail into several 1-inch sections and curl each one downward with a curling iron. Use hairpins to pin these tendrils to the base of the ponytail in alternating directions. The look is messy.

4. Once you have your messy bun, wind the braid around the base of the bun and pin the end underneath. If the hair is too short to allow you to wind the braid, you can tuck it into the side of the bun.
